Transform your kitchen cabinets with style

Painting kitchen cabinets is one of the most popular projects for DIYers. It’s easy to do and can add a lot of style and character to your kitchen without breaking the bank. If you’re thinking of painting your kitchen cabinets, here are some tips to help you get the perfect look.

The first step is to remove the cabinet doors and drawers. You’ll also want to remove all the hardware, including the knobs, hinges, and pulls. Once you have everything removed, you can clean the cabinets with a degreaser or mild detergent. This will help ensure the paint adheres to the surface and that the end result looks neat and professional.

Next, you’ll want to sand the cabinets with a medium-grit sandpaper. This will help the paint adhere better to the cabinets and help create a smooth finish. If you’re working with a glossy paint, you can also use a special deglosser to help the paint stick better. After you’re done sanding, use a damp cloth to wipe away any dust or debris.

It’s very important to apply a heavy coat of Zinsser Shellac primer which will pretty guarantee the top coat will adhere properly. Then sand the cabinets again before applying the top coat.

Now you can start painting. Make sure to use a good quality paint that is made for painting cabinets. I prefer to use Dunn Edwards Aristoshield Waterborne Urethane or Sherwin Williams Pro Industrial.

My recommended application process is using a fine finish spray. This way they turn out like glass without roller or brush marks. You can also use either a brush or a roller to apply the paint if you prefer. If you are using a brush, make sure to use long even strokes and light-to-medium pressure. If using a roller, use a medium-nap roller and work in long, even strokes.

Finally, you’ll want to add a clear coat or sealer to your kitchen cabinets. This will help protect the paint and make it last longer. You can apply the sealer with brush or a roller. Once the sealer is dry, you can reassemble the cabinets and add the hardware. You should also be sure to wait the recommended amount of time before using the cabinets. With some patience and the rights supplies, you can have beautiful, stylish cabinets that will make your kitchen look amazing!
